There are places you visit once.
And there are places you return to again and again.
For me, Bansko is one of the latter.
When I first came here almost 20 years ago, I had no idea this place would stay with me so deeply. But even then, a little part of my heart stayed here.
A lot has changed since. Bansko has changed, and so have I. But the feeling that made me fall in love with this place has remained.
Perhaps that feeling is also at the heart of Mila Stays.
Bansko is more than skiing
Say “Bansko” and many people immediately picture snow, skiing and the Pirin Mountains.
And yes — winter here is special.
But for me, Bansko has never been only a winter resort.
I love it when the mountain wakes up in spring, when summer brings cooler air and long walks, and when autumn colours Pirin and the town becomes a little quieter.
There is something here that is difficult to put into words.
You have to feel it.
What do I look for in a place to stay?
A beautiful interior matters to me.
But it is not enough.
Whenever I choose or prepare an apartment, I ask myself one simple question:
“Would I stay here?”
Would I be happy to wake up here in the morning?
Is there somewhere I can sit quietly with my coffee?
Would it feel cosy after a long day in the mountains?
Is everything I need there, without having to think about the small practical things?
That is what I look for with Mila Stays — the right balance of cosiness, comfort and a sense of home.
And if there is a view of Pirin too, even better.
Everyone has their own Bansko
For some people, being close to the gondola is what matters most.
For others, easy parking makes all the difference because they are travelling by car.
Families look for space, practical comforts and a sense of calm.
Others simply want somewhere to unwind after a day out — perhaps a pool, some quiet and the feeling that they can truly switch off.
And sometimes you are not looking for anything in particular.
You simply want to open the window in the morning and see the mountains.
That is why I do not believe there is one “best apartment in Bansko”.
There is the right place for the right person and the right trip.
The little things make the biggest difference
I do not think a good stay is defined only by square metres or a beautiful kitchen.
Sometimes it is something very small.
The apartment being perfectly prepared.
Getting a quick answer when you have a question.
Knowing exactly how check-in will work.
Not having to worry about the little practical details.
Coming back after a day in the mountains and simply feeling comfortable.
These are rarely the things you see in promotional photographs.
But they are often the things you remember.
So why Mila Stays?
Mila Stays began with one simple idea:
to offer places where I would genuinely want to stay myself.
I do not want a huge list of apartments simply for the sake of numbers.
I would rather know the places I offer.
Know what a guest can expect.
Be able to personally recommend a restaurant, a walk or a favourite place for coffee.
And when someone writes to me, I do not want them to feel like another booking in a system.
I want them to feel like a person coming to Bansko.
Bansko, the way I love it
Perhaps that is why I like the idea of a boutique stay so much.
Not everything has to be grand.
Sometimes a beautiful view is enough.
A warm coffee.
A clean, cosy apartment.
Good company.
The mountains nearby.
And a day when you do not have to rush anywhere.
This is the Bansko I want to share through Mila Stays.
Almost 20 years ago, I came here simply as someone visiting a beautiful place.
Today, I return as someone who has left a part of her heart here.
And perhaps that is why I want people who come to Bansko to leave with more than lovely photographs — I want them to leave feeling they have found a place of their own.
If you are planning a stay in Bansko, explore Mila Stays and find the apartment that feels most like your kind of escape.
